Six years ago, in order to treat his wife, Isabella Sinclair, Victor Blackwood fell into a massive debt, suffering physical damage that caused mental instability. Forced to divorce Isabella and fearing that she would see him in such a miserable state, he believed he was no longer worthy of her. Thus, he disappeared completely from her world. Isabella mistakenly thought that Victor had abandoned her and seized all their joint assets during her illness.
What Victor did six years ago was a result of being blackmailed by her mother and brother, who used her illness to force Victor to sell Isabella's house, jewelry, and even take on high-interest loans, plunging him into years of misery. She had been wrong about the person she had hated all along. Upon learning the truth, Isabella sent her mother and brother to prison and eventually remarried Victor.
