Quick answer: 9 episodes, English original audio, and episodes 1–9 play right here tonight.

The story is set on the Starfall Continent, where three clans—humans, demons, and fiends—stand in a tripartite balance. Every human, upon turning eighteen, awakens a contracted spirit companion. The companion’s star rating determines the warrior’s growth ceiling. Jiang Ce, a transmigrator from Earth, takes over the body of the last heir of the Jiang clan in Jiangbei City, part of the Great Xia Alliance. Because his soul conflicts with the world’s laws, he cannot wield even a trace of spiritual power by age eighteen, making him the laughingstock of the entire city. His engagement to Xiao Qiang, a gifted young cultivator, also grows increasingly strained.

On the academy’s awakening day, Xiao Qiang unlocks an eight-star spirit companion, the Undying Phoenix, instantly rising as the top prodigy of Jiangbei. She publicly calls off her engagement to Jiang Ce and joins forces with Wang Teng, the legitimate heir of the Wang clan, to humiliate him mercilessly. In his darkest moment, Jiang Ce awakens a Summoning System. Faced with three options for handling the broken engagement, he refuses to grovel for mercy or settle for an ordinary spirit pet—instead, he tears up the marriage certificate, unlocking the ability to bind a rare divine pet above the nine-star tier. The System forcefully captures the Fire Phoenix, Queen of the Fire Demon Realm, and binds her as Jiang Ce’s contracted companion. However, because Jiang Ce lacks spiritual power, the Fire Phoenix can only take the form of a palm-sized red bird, earning mockery as a zero-star useless pet.
