Lu Xiyan grows up in a broken family. Her father Chen Bin is abusive and addicted to gambling, while her mother is weak‑willed. During her childhood, Chen Bin chased his fleeing wife by car and accidentally ran over and killed the father of Pei Yucheng, young heir of the Pei Group. He was sentenced to ten years in prison. Years later, Lu Xiyan falls in love with Pei Yucheng and becomes pregnant. Right before their wedding, she learns from her mother that her father is the man responsible for Pei’s father’s death. Terrified that Pei Yucheng will reject her as the daughter of his father’s killer, and fearing the Pei family will force her to abort her baby, Lu Xiyan makes the painful choice to stage a breakup by pretending to fall for someone else. She enlists Gu Mingxuan, who owed her a childhood favor, to act alongside her. After leaving the words “We shall never meet again”, she vanishes completely.

Five years pass. Lu Xiyan raises her four‑year‑old daughter Duoduo alone, only to be diagnosed with a rare hereditary heart disease, given merely six months to live. To make matters worse, newly‑released Chen Bin steals all her life‑saving money for gambling. With nowhere else to turn, Lu Xiyan decides to send Duoduo back to the Pei family to be cared for by Pei Yucheng. Pei Yucheng is now the world‑famous CEO of Pei Group. Plagued by severe depression from the sudden breakup five years ago, he publicly claims he will have no heirs, torn between love and hatred for Lu Xiyan. When Duoduo shows up alone calling him “Daddy”, it sends shockwaves through the Pei household. After paternity test confirmation, Madam Pei is overjoyed. Yet Pei Yucheng remains bitter over the supposed betrayal, convinced Lu Xiyan has come to extort money.
