The story

Emma Clark spends three years in a contract marriage with Shane Holt. One night breaks their rule, and neither mentions it again. When she hands him divorce papers, he tears them in half. By nightfall, a criminal complaint arrives. Her sister Joelle is the informant and Austin Barrett, her childhood friend, is the witness. Shane signs the complaint and Emma enters prison wearing his ring.

She gives birth there to a daughter, Ellie. Released eighteen months later, she sweeps streets she once owned. She builds back slowly, putting the supervisor who framed her behind bars. Shane cannot stop watching her or paying for a daughter he cannot name. When he finally hands over the forged report with his own name on it, the truth comes out. Austin and Joelle's betrayals are exposed, and Emma starts to rebuild her life.
