New episodes of the Back In Time Webcast

Mike Stulir & Howard Scott WarshawI am pleased to bring three (long overdue) episodes of the Back In Time webcast.

First off is the "Father of Computer Games" Sid Meier from PhillyClassic 4.  Sid appeared briefly on the E3 webcast in 2001, and I am pleased to say I was able to have a more in-depth conversation with him this time around.

The second episode is from the 5th Annual Funspot tournament.

The third episode is from PhillyClassic 5 featuring Howard Scott Warshaw.  Howard was a blast, and he speaks at length about the development of games like Yars Revenge, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Saboteur.  Howard also explains his theory on why Steven Spielberg is an alien.

Sid Meier and Howard Scott Warshaw were recorded in front of a live audience.

Be sure to check them out!!!  These .MP3 files are kind of large, so a broadband connection is recommended.

Product Review -- Ms. Pac-Man TV Games

Jakks Pacific has released another nostalgic videogame unit.

Jakks Pacific has been chasing down a lot of licenses lately for classic videogames.  This Ms. Pac-Man unit is the fourth classic gaming unit they have released, and more are on the way.

This unit has Ms. Pac-Man, Mappy, Xevious, Galaga, and Pole Position.

Is it worth your hard-earned money?  Does it have the same problems as their other units?  Does it have all new problems?  Only one way to find out.  Click the link below to read our full review.

  Product Review -- Stelladaptor

Pixels Past and AtariAge recently released the Stelladaptor 2600 Controller to USB Interface! This new hardware product allows you to connect standard Atari 2600 joysticks, paddles, and driving controllers to modern Windows, Macintosh and Linux computers.

Back In Time picked up one of these awesome devices at the recent PhillyClassic 5.  Our review of the Stelladaptor is now available.  After playing with it for two months, we can say with complete certainty that Pixels Past & AtariAge have a potential huge hit on their hands.

  PHOTOS -- PhillyClassic 5

PhillyClassic 5 has come and gone.  Once again, it was an amazing event that you should not have missed.  2,584 people attended the 5th annual event -- an increase of over 1,400 from last year.

Aside from a ton of great vendors, PhillyClassic had a HUGE arcade with close to 100 games from Videotopia, and Quarterarcade.com.  PhillyClassic also hosted the Twin Galaxies 2004 World Championships of Classic Coin-Op games.

I recorded several episodes of the webcast, with people such as Cindy Morgan (pictured), Howard Scott Warshaw, and several others.

While it will take some time to edit all of the audio, I have posted roughly 1/4 of the 200 photos I took over the weekend.  You will certainly see that the show floor was completely full during the two days.

  NEW 2600 Game -- Saboteur

Saboteur was released to the public last weekend at PhillyClassic 5.  Saboteur is an enjoyable, multi-level shooter written by Howard Scott Warshaw,  the Atari programmer and designer responsible for Yars Revenge, E.T., and Raiders of the Lost Ark.  Saboteur was never released by Atari, and at some point was modified to be released as a game based on the A-Team

Saboteur features a professionally printed box, manual and label, all in the style of Atari's original silver label releases. This is a more complete version of the game than what is currently floating around the net. The artwork for the game was created by Dave Exton, with a manual written by Matt Reichert, including Howard Scott Warshaw's thoughts about the game.

You can read more about Saboteur over at AtariProtos.com.  Saboteur can be purchased at the AtariAge store.
