Atari Jaguar
Current/Future Development

This page is graphics intensive.  It may take a few moments to load.

Some people say that the Atari Jaguar is a dead system.  Well, just because Atari is dead, that does not mean that the system is.   Development is still going on, and we should see many new titles in 1999.   Here is a look at a few of them.....

Protector

Protector - Protector is a game that has been revived from certain death and now has the opportunity to be completed and published on the Atari Jaguar.  The game was rumored to have been produced by Bethesda Softworks, and has been revived by Carl Forhan.

So, what is Protector?  In a nutshell, it is a clone of the classic arcade game Defender.  Protector should appeal to anyone looking for the classic gameplay associated with the original Defender.  The game features enhanced graphics, sounds, and new enemies to battle.  If you enjoy Defender and want a game loaded with nonstop action and massive doses of replayability, Protector is for you.

Carl estimates that the game is 80% finished, and is currently in a fully-playable state.  He has been improving some areas of the game such as adding ProController support and additional animation for the humanoids.

The Assassin - The year is 2147, the place-- Austin, Texas.  You take on the role of Michael Steele a Chicago detective who is put on trial for the murder of a number of not-too respectable people who murdered his brother Kavanaugh.  After some serious investigating, he finds that not everything is what it seems and instead of avenging his brother's murder he gets caught in a web of deceit and betrayal as he delves deeper into the underworld looking for answers to questions he doesn't even know exist. The Assassin is a prequel to Orb Of Bengazi and because it's a prequel, those who play the first game will have more of a grasp of what's going on in the second. Of course, that may be half the fun.

The world of 2147 is based on an RPG system that the author, James Garvin, has been working on for a number of years called "Blood City".  There's a dark, almost oppressive gloom which follows the Cyberpunk genre in general, and this world is basically the same, except sometimes the gloom isn't necessarily visible.  Orcs, goblins, trolls, humans, elves, gnomes, dwarves, pixies, etc. all coexist and make up a world that is not much different than the world we live in today.  Just picture your best friend as an elf, or ogre instead of human.

BattleSphere - This game has been in development for four years, and is one of the most anticipated Jaguar titles ever.  It is a spectacular space-fighter game.  Think of it as Star Raiders 2000.

The game takes place 800 years in the future.  The galaxy is in turmoil.  Each of the seven known races has exploited and polluted its own homeworld until the colonization of new planets has become a necessity rather than a choice.  Where borders meet, conflict erupts. No race is completely blameless as the warring escalates to culminate in the destruction of a million worlds and the slaughter of a billion sentient beings.  Habitable planets are rare, however, and the leaders of the races realize that if hostilities continue, it will be impossible to survive on any world.

Sheer panic motivates a quick solution: No longer will the seven races wreak unbridled destruction throughout the galaxy.  Instead, all hostilities will be confined to the Battle Sphere, a small, closed region of space to which each race will send its finest warriors.  The triumphant race will be allowed to colonize freely; each of the remaining races will be confined to its original, dying homeworld forevermore...

The game itself has been completed for since October 1998.   The publishers are waiting for Hasbro to provide the Jaguar encryption key.   Once that has been done, the cartridges can be manufactured.
