Raine
The Rainbow Islands Emulator

Raine is an emulator that emulates some M680x0 arcade games and is mainly focussed on Taito games and hardware. Currently, Raine can emulate such classic games as Ninja Warriors, Superman, Super Space Invaders '91, Armed Formation, Blood Brothers, and many more.

It started as an experiment with the Rainbow Islands romset, dumped by araCORN at Romlist. This emulator has grown to almost 60 games, and is what I consider to be a "sleeper" emulator. With much of the focus on MAME and Retrocade, it has been easy to overlook this one. However, the majority of the games in Raine have NOT been emulated any where else, so for most people, the games in Raine will be new to them.

Emulating cpu's and sound chips takes quite a
lot of coding time, so, like most of the current emulators, Raine uses emulation engines
already available when possible.
Raine uses the following:
CPU:
M68020: Based on Bernd Schmidt's UAE 68020 emulator.
M68000: Neil Corlett's Starscream 68000 emulator.
Z80: Neil Bradley's MZ80 emulator.
SOUND:
YM2610: Hiromitsu Shioya's YM2610 emulator (implemented by Hiro-Shi).
YM2151: Jarek Burczynski's YM2151 emulator.
YM2203: Ishmair's OPL emulator/converter and also Michael
Cuddy's YM2203 emulation (also part of the YM21610).
Requirements:
Pentium Class Processor (p120+)
16Mb+ of ram
Win95/MS-DOS
Good Graphics card (with VESA2+ support)
Compatible arcade romsets
It's just possible to run on a 486, depending on the game. According to the author,
a P120 should be just about ok for the near future of Raine, although it might not be that
smooth in the ym2610/ym2151 games, but it will be possible to disable them in a future
version, plus they have not been optimized.
This emulator can be downloaded directly from it's
homepage.
NOTE: In order to run this emulator, you must have the emulator itself, and a copy of the ROM's from the original system. The emulator itself is Freeware. The ROM's are copyrighted by the programmer or the manufacturer. You are only legally entitled to do so if you own the actual game, or a PCB/ROM Cartridge from the game that you are emulating. If you decide to download ROM's to test out an emulator, you must delete the ROM's within 24 hours unless you own the equipment mentioned above.
ROM's may be found at many sites, including EMUCLASSICS.
